Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi defeated Bharatiya Janata Party in the Kolhapur North Assembly by-elections. Jayshree Jadhav, the joint candidate of MVA and contesting on Congress ticket, defeated Satyajit Kadam of BJP by about 19 thousand votes (18901). While Jayshree got 96 Thousand 226 votes, BJP’s Satyajit Kadam had to be satisfied with 77 Thousand 426 votes.
Seeing the manner in which both the parties had put their strength in the election campaign, it would not be wrong to say that this is the litmus test of Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024.
In total 26 rounds of counting, Jayashree was leading from the start, although the vote margin was very small initially. After this victory, there is an atmosphere of celebration in the Mahavikas Aghadi camp.
60 percent voting has taken place in Kolhapur North assembly constituency with an electorate of 1 lakh 75 thousand.
In the first three-four rounds, it was almost certain to be ahead of the Congress, because of the influence of Congress leader and patron minister Satej Patil in these areas. But in the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds also, the Congress maintained its lead.
