Mumbai: Yesterday, Thursday, the politics of the state took a 360 degree U-turn. Shiv Sena rebel leader Eknath Shinde became the state’s chief minister, while former chief minister Devendra Fadnavis was sworn in as deputy chief minister. Yesterday’s incident shocked everyone. BJP’s masterstroke?

After rebelling against Shiv Sena, Eknath Shinde took 39 Shiv Sena MLAs with him, while the Shinde faction revolted against the Mavia government on the strength of a total of 50 MLAs from Independents and other parties and finally Uddhav Thackeray resigned as Chief Minister. Meanwhile, the Shinde group was in talks with the BJP. Ashaat Devendra Fadnavis would be the Chief Minister and Eknath Shinde would be the Deputy Chief Minister.

But yesterday, on Thursday, Devendra Fadnavis announced that Eknath Shinde will be the Chief Minister and he himself will stay out of the government. This was called the BJP’s masterstroke. Initially, only Eknath Shinde was to be sworn in. However, at that time, the BJP high command at the Center ordered Fadnavis to be sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister and Fadnavis became the Deputy Chief Minister of the state.

Discussions abound that Fadnavis is upset

Eknath Shinde is a rebel Shiv Sainik, while Devendra Fadnavis is a prominent leader of Maharashtra BJP and former Chief Minister of the state. Due to this, when comparing Shinde and Fadnavis, Fadnavis becomes a senior leader than Shinde. Despite this, Shinde was given the post of Chief Minister, defeating Fadnavis. Discussions are rife that Fadnavis is unhappy with the central BJP’s game.

After being sworn in as Deputy Chief Minister, BJP national president J. P. Nadda tweeted, “By taking this decision, the BJP has proved once again that it is not our goal to get any post but our ultimate goal is to serve the country and the people of Maharashtra under the leadership of Narendra Modi.”
