A 26-year-old man from Delhi has been arrested for allegedly stealing gold and diamond jewellery from a Surat-based company in New Delhi. The arrest was made by Ahmedabad Police’s Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) in Ahmedabad.
The accused has been identified as Bharat Rajpur, a resident of Karol Bagh in New Delhi. He is a native of Banaskantha district.
The man is accused of stealing diamond and gold jewellery worth lakhs from the safe vaults of Sanskar Diamond Firm in Karolbagh, according to a report in Indian Express.
Six diamonds and five gold earrings worth Rs 30 lakh have been recovered from the accused, said police. According to police, it is suspected that the accused has sold most of the stolen jewellery.
“The accused was working in a Surat-based diamond firm that had a safe vault in Delhi’s Karol Bagh for its Delhi business. The accused was entrusted with the transactions of the vault. A year ago, Bharat started a diamond venture in Surat on his own without the knowledge of his employers. However, he suffered great loss and faced a huge debt. He then stole diamonds and gold from the safe vault of his employer and sold them for his personal gain,” the report quoted crime branch official as saying.
