Minor girl gang-raped in moving car; 3 arrested under POCSO Act

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly gang-raped by two people in a moving car. Police officials have apprehended 3 suspects, including two who committed the heinous crime and another person who was present at the time of the crime. All the three accused were aged 23, 25, and 35 years. The incident took place on the intervening night of July 6 and 7 when the victim had gone to meet two people who were previously known to her.
The suspects have been booked under sections 323 (assault), 342 (wrongful confinement), 354 (molestation), 376 D (gangrape), 377 (unnatural offence), 363 (kidnapping a minor), 506 (criminal intimidation) and section 6/8 of Protection of Children Again Sexual Offences Act (POCSCO).
“A PCR call was received at Vasant Vihar police station at 4 a.m. on July 8 in which the caller stated three men have molested a girl,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (southwest) Manoj C. said. The caller, who was the father of the victim girl, told police that his minor daughter went from Vasant Vihar with three people in a Wagon R car at 8.30 p.m. on July 6 and all of them returned the next day, in the morning of July 7. The girl told her parents about the incident late in the evening after which they took their daughter to a hospital.
The survivor has said in her statement that on July 6, she met her friend in the Moti Bagh area of South Delhi in the evening. Later she was on her way back to Basant Gaon (near Vasant Vihar) when she met two suspects whom she knew since they lived close to her residence. All three then went to stroll in the market when one of the suspects, called his friend who came in a car. The three of them then got in the vehicle and drove to the Mahipalpur Market. They purchased alcohol and then drove the car around. The survivor was forced to drink alcohol after which she was sexually assaulted and reportedly beaten up.
Officials have said that there was no external injury to the victim or even to the accused and that investigation is still underway to clarify the facts,” the official added. The survivor also claimed that the accused filmed the act.
