Minor girl kidnapped, raped by 21-year-old neighbour

 A 16-year-old girl was kidnapped and raped by her neighbour in the Sarangpur police station area in Chandigarh. Though the incident occurred a few days back, the accused identified as 21-year-old Ashif, a resident of Dhanas in Chandigarh was arrested by the police on Friday.
On May 22, the parents of the girl had filed an FIR at the Sarangpur police station alleging that Ashif, who was their neighbour had kidnapped their daughter after promising to marry her.
Based on the complaint, an investigation was launched and police questioned some of Ashif’s friends. Police finally traced the accused in a hotel and rescued the girl on Friday.
The girl was later sent for medical examination which confirmed sexual assault, following which Sections 376 (rape) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act were added to the case.
Earlier, Ashif was booked under Sections 363 (kidnapping) and 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing woman to compel her mar­riage, etc.) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
