MUMBAI: You are alone in a rickshaw and the driver is speeding to a deserted place without stopping anywhere. What will be the mental state of a single woman at that time? The victim Rucha Attal has raised the question whether the Mumbai Police has any idea about this. She had alleged that a rickshaw driver tried to kidnap her in Versova area on Saturday. She says that the Versova police is reluctant to file a case against him.

Rucha told breakingboom.com on Sunday that we were called to the police station after her friend retweeted the police about the rickshaw driver. However, we came to the police station for recording our statement but cops  was not recorded our any statement. After taking it to the police for almost three hours, we reported this news, after which Sub-Inspector Patil along with his team reached our house at 4.30am. They recorded my statement at our house 4.30 am till 5.30 am  in the morning. I  had to catch a six o’clock flight to Chennai.

“We do not understand the difference between FIR and statement. The police asked us to tweet that a case had been registered and we did. But now we understand that the FIR has not been filed. Rucha also expressed regret that the police might be trying to settle this issue,” said Rucha.

I felt like jumping out of the rickshaw…
“After I landed in Chennai on Sunday, I got a call from the Versova police. The caller asks if you want to report further. Also, we had called the rickshaw driver for questioning as he was a resident of Khar and had lost his way. I was also told that he is a 53-year-old decent person and there is no proof of your allegations,” Rucha told BB.

“Why didn’t you go to ask for help when you saw the police car? This question was also asked. Basically, at that time, I thought that I should jump from the rickshaw. So when I saw the police car I dared to get out of the rickshaw because I was so scared,” said Rucha.

Veera Desai or Versova?
According to the police, the driver was a resident of Khar so he did not know the road. Also he says madam said Veera Desai Country Club but I heard Versova. However, her relatives have questioned why the driver did not ask Rucha if he did not know the way when he got into the rickshaw.

Who said not to complain?
When Senior Police Inspector Siraj Inamdar of Versova Police Station was asked about this, he said that he told the victim that she did not want to file a complaint. On the contrary, Rucha has asked why I would have spent three hours at the police station for free if I did not want to file a complaint.
