Despite the plastic ban in Mumbai, the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has taken stern action against the widespread use of plastic. The corporation is constantly appealing to the citizens not to use the banned plastic.  According to this, during the period of about 20 months from June 2018 to January 2022, NMC has confiscated 1 lakh 75 thousand 428 kg plastic at various places.

Municipal Corporation has also collected 5 crores 36 lakh 85 thousand fines from plastic users despite the ban.

The state government had on March 23, 2018 issued a notification banning the use of plastic. It prohibits the use of prohibited plastic bags (with and without handles), disposable and disposable items such as plates, cups, plates, glasses, spoons, etc.

However, the Municipal Corporation has taken this action after finding plastic bags in the possession of many shopkeepers, peddlers and citizens in Mumbai.
