Opposition leader Pravin Darekar has exposed the multi-crore scam of bogus maps of 830 bungalows in Madh Island. The Legislative Council had filed a notice in this regard. Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat assured that action will be taken against the culprits after conducting an inquiry through the Commissioner.
The bogus copies of the 1967 original maps of the Land Records Department were made in violation of the No-Development Zone, CRZ and NA rules on Madh Island in the western suburbs.
The corrupt chain of land records office, Mumbai Municipal Corporation and Dhandandge conspired to create bogus maps of 830 bungalows.
State Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat agreed with everyone and admitted in his reply that 102 unauthorized bungalows were built on the basis of bogus maps. He assured that the commissioner would inquire into the matter within a month and take action against the culprits.
