Due to the increasing use of social media, cybercriminals are seeing an increase in the Internet and various social media. From sextortion, offensive texts, obscenity, morphing, cheating is seen to be on the rise. One such shocking case has come to light from Navi Mumbai.
Social media friendship has cost a senior citizen of Navi Mumbai area dearly. The accused contacted a senior citizen through WhatsApp and induced him to get naked on a video call. He demanded money from the senior citizen by recording the video call and threatening to make it viral.
Fearing that the video would go viral, the victim sent as much as Rs 43 lakh 22 thousand 900 to various bank accounts as told by the accused. But even after that the accused started repeatedly blackmailing, finally the victim senior citizen complained to the Navi Mumbai Cyber Police.
The police immediately conducted an investigation and arrested the accused, who lives in Paldi village of Dig district in Rajasthan. The accused confessed his crime and many mobile phones, SIM cards and ATM cards were seized from him. The cyber police is further investigating the matter and the police are looking for his other accomplices.
