Beyond Type 1 is a nonprofit organization that is changing what it means to live with diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is a chronic, autoimmune condition that requires constant management and brings physical and mental challenges. Last week, American singer Nick Jonas took to social media and celebrated the 16th anniversary of his diabetes diagnosis. The singer has been in touch with the Beyond Type 1 organisation and has been working with them. Earlier today, Nick took to his social media handle and shared a photo with the organisation’s CEO Thom Scher, and mourned his sudden demise.
The news of Thom’s passing away was shared on the official social media handle of Beyond Type 1. The same reads, “Beyond Type 1 is saddened by the unexpected passing of our president and CEO, Thom Scher. He was a charismatic colleague, mentor, and friend to all of us at Beyond Type 1. We will honor Thom’s memory by continuing the important work he championed on behalf of all those living with diabetes.” Many took to the comment section and praised Thom.
Nick also shared a photo with Thom and penned, “So saddened by the unexpected passing of Thom Scher the Beyond Type 1 President & CEO. I’ve been lucky enough to know Thom for about 7 years, and I am so proud of the work we’ve done to advocate for those living with Type 1 diabetes. He was a great colleague, mentor, and friend to all. Rest In Peace.”
Now, Priyanka Chopra, who is Nick’s wife and a Board of Directors of Beyond Type 1 also mourned Thom’s demise. Priyanka reposted Nick and Thom’s photo and atop it, she wrote, “Gone too soon, Thom Scher. You will be missed. Thoughts and prayers with family and loved ones.”
It was in February 2021, when Priyanka joined the organisation as a Board of Directors. Thom had welcomed Priyanka and thanked her and Nick for their support. His note ad read, “Thrilled that @priyankachopra has joined the @beyondtype1 Board of Directors as we expand our global footprint! Priyanka’s expertise will guide our continued work as we build partnerships with organizations making change on the ground in some of the most under-resourced countries for diabetes care. I’m excited to work with Priyanka, @nickjonas, and the entire Beyond Type 1 Board and Team to improve the quality of life for people with diabetes around the globe.”
Nick was diagnosed with diabetes when he was just 13.
