Anti-narcotics cell of Mumbai Police seizes 7 kg heroin worth Rs 22 cr from Sion

In a major crackdown against drug peddlers, the anti-narcotics cell of the Mumbai Police has seized 7 kg heroin from Sion. The value of the recovered drug is said to be around Rs 22 cr.

The police have also arrested drug peddlers in connection with the seizure.

On October 10, three persons were arrested by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) for trying to smuggle 25.45 kg of heroin into India.

According to officials, the accused concealed the contrabands in five cans of mustard oil which arrived at Nhava Sheva port in Navi Mumbai from Afghanistan via Chabahar port in Iran.

Following a tip-off, the DRI searched the port and seized the narcotics. Officials said the accused told the customs officials that the containers carry sesame seed oil and mustard oil.

“During the examination, the officers found an off-white coloured material concealed at the bottom,” DRI had said in a statement. After the examination of the material, it was later found that the material was narcotics.
