A woman was dragged on the road for almost 200 metres by bike-borne persons during a snatching attempt in Shalimar Bagh area in Delhi on Thursday evening. A video of the incident, recorded on CCTV cameras mounted in the area, has surfaced.
The incident took place at around 6 pm when the woman in question was on her way back home. Two persons, travelling on a two-wheeler, tugged at the woman’s bag. As resisted the snatching attempt by holding onto her bag, the bike-borne duo dragged her on the road for nearly 200 metres in full public view.
The CCTV footage shows the woman holding onto her bag even as the assailants accelerated the two-wheeler. They dragged her for nearly 200 metres until she fell down on the busy road. She fell just next to a car that was advancing from the opposite direction. After this, some people rushed towards her while the assailants zoomed away, the CCTV footage showed.
This comes days after a group of eight armed dacoits subjected an elderly woman to frightening torture before fleeing with her belongings and cash from her house in Maharashtra’s Nagpur.
The woman, identified as Anita Meshram (72), stays alone in Welcome Society in Dabha area. Her daughter and son-in-law reside opposite her home. A gang of eight dacoits barged into her house. The gang tied up her hands using her saree and then dragged her around the house, asking her to reveal the place where valuables were stashed.
The accused threatened her with hard and sharp objects in the house. They fled with valuables and cash, collectively worth Rs 98,000. The septuagenarian, later, approached her daughter and son-in-law, following which a complaint was lodged at the Gittikhadan police station in the city.
