In yet shocking incident of violence based on caste affiliation, a Dalit youth was brutally thrashed by a group of people in Kanpur Dehat district of Uttar Pradesh.
The 21-year-old victim by pulled by hair, kicked and brutally beaten with sticks in the public. The shameful incident was caught on camera.
Police said one accused has been arrested in connection with the case. While police are on the hunt for other accused, according to a report in NDTV online.
The incident reportedly took place in Akbarpur area of Kanpur Dehat around two days back. While the accused thrashed the Dalit man, he was asked to identify his caste. The thrashing gets more brutal after he revealed his caste.
“As soon as we got to know about the video, a police case was filed in the matter. A person identified in the viral video has been arrested. Two more people can be seen beating the Dalit youth. We are trying to find out their details and teams have been formed to arrest them,” the report quoted Ghanshyam Chaurasiya, Additional SP, Kanpur Dehat, as saying. The police have admitted the victim to Kanpur hospital.
