A girl from Aligarh, just a few days after she turned 18, married her boyfriend who she had previously accused of abducting and raping her. The allegation had led to the boy serving eight months in jail back in 2019. The girl said she made the accusation due to ’emotional blackmail’ by her parents.

Nisha Pathak (name changed) turned 18 on March 31 and had previously approached a POCSO court in Aligarh to file an affidavit which claimed that her boyfriend, Vijay Agarwal (20) was innocent and had not done anything ‘wrong with her,’ She also clarified that the duo had been in a consensual relationship since Class X after they’d met in their coaching classes in 2017, according to a report in Times of India.

Since her parents were against the relationship, Nisha said her parents had pressed the charges in June 2019 after spotting them together. They also threatened to commit suicide if she refused to give a statement against Vijay. The boy was arrested and sent to jail on June 7, 2019 after being booked for abduction and rape of a minor. The Allahabad High Court granted him bail in March 2020 after he’d already spent eight months in jail. On Tuesday, the girl married Vijay at Aligarh temple.

A BCA student pursuing her degree from a private college in Mathura, Nisha approached the office of senior superintendent of police (SSP) demanding police protection before she went ahead to tie the knot. However, she added that she does not want any serious actions to be taken against her parents. Nisha said, “I fear that I will be killed by my uncles, who came to my in-laws’ house last night and threatened me and my husband.”

“Nisha contacted me and came over to Aligarh a few days ago to file an affidavit in the court. Finally, we got together,” said Vijay. Chitranjan Agarwal, Nisha’s lawyer, explained that she had appeared before the POCSO court on Tuesday and filed an affidavit. The next date for the case hearing is scheduled to be August 2.
