The country is celebrating ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, the 75th year of Independence from British colonial rule.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi greeted the nation and said that may this year of Independence infuse new energy and new consciousness among the countrymen.
“Greetings to you all on Independence Day. Wishing you all a very Happy 75th Independence Day. May this year of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ infuse new energy and consciousness among the countrymen. Jai Hind!” he tweeted.
PM Modi hoisted the national flag at the Red Fort this morning and also addressed the nation. Several events have been organised by the armed forces and security personnel saluting the tricolour with a guard of honour.
India’s Olympic contingent are the special guests at the Red Fort today.
