Irked after woman objects to inappropriate touch, man vandalises her car with axe

: A youth in Khanna, Punjab allegedly vandalised a woman’s car after she objected to his inappropriate advances. Reportedly, the woman was returning from her coaching when the accused approached her. Allegedly, the accused followed the woman and made inappropriate advances at her.

A resident of Sirhind, the complainant attends IELTS coaching at an institute in Guru Teg Bahadur Market, Khanna. The incident took place on Saturday, when the woman was on her way back home.

The accused allegedly pulled the woman’s dupatta, grabbed her hand and asked for her mobile number along with her Facebook account. The 26-year-old woman raised an alarm, following which, some of the locals came to her rescue.

Disturbed after the incident, the woman called her husband, asking him to pick her up. The accused allegedly approached the woman when she was returning home with her husband and vandalised their car. The accused hit the windshield with an axe before fleeing from the spot.

According to assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Charanjit Singh – who is also the investigating officer of the case – the accused has been booked under Sections 354 (assaults or uses criminal force to any woman) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)
