Meerut: A woman in Uttar Pradesh was allegedly gang-raped on the pretext of ‘nikah halala’. The incident took place in the TP Nagar area of Agra on Saturday. Reportedly, the woman had approached a maulvi as she wanted to remarry after her husband had given her a ‘triple-talaq’ in anger.

The woman said that while her husband had asked for a ‘triple talaq’, he later regretted his decision and decided to remarry. The maulvi asked the woman to perform ‘nikah halala’.
Under nikah halala, a woman who wishes to remarry the man who gave her triple talaq, has to marry another man, consummate the marriage, get divorced and observe ‘iddat’. Iddat refers to a period of separation.
