Nav Mumbai: The Crime Branch Unit-2 of Navi Mumbai police has arrested a man for allegedly black marketing Covishield vaccine.
The accused identified as Kishore Khet Kumar was arrested from Nerul on Wednesday evening. Police said two vials and 15 syringes of Covishield were seized from Kumar’s possession.
The police have initiated a probe as to how the accused got the vaccine. Police said they received a tip-off that a man was selling each dose of Covishield vaccine for Rs 4,000 each, according to a report in Indian Express.
The government is currently providing free vaccines against the Covid-19 virus across the country. Later, the crime branch informed Food and Drug Administration officials who then sent a decoy customer.
According to police, the accused was called to Rajiv Gandhi flyover in Sector 8 Nerul to vaccinate the decoy customer and a trap was laid to nab him. The accused arrived at the spot at 4pm and took Rs 60,000 for 15 doses of Rs 4,000 each.
Nerul police station booked the accused on charges of fraud and cheating and arrested him.
“We are probing from where the accused got the Covishield vaccine and to how many people he has sold the vaccine in this manner,” the report quoted Senior Inspector Giridhar Gore as saying.
