In yet another incident of sexual assault, four men allegedly gang-raped a married woman at Nimapara in Odisha’s Puri district. The four accused — identified as Balaram Bhoi alias Balia and his associates Kanhei Bhoi, Bidyadhar Swain and Ajit Das — were arrested by the police on Sunday.
As per the case details, the incident took place on Saturday night when the 22-year-old woman had gone to the village riverbed for answering nature’s call. She was alone. The four accused, who are residents of a neighbouring village, sexually assaulted her there after overpowering her.
The woman’s husband and other members of the family started looking for her, as she did not come back after a considerable time. The search party found her crying on the riverbed. She was taken to the police station, where a complaint was lodged against the accused. On Sunday, the four accused were arrested by the police, according to a report by The Times of India.
Puri SP Kanwar Vishal Singh has assured swift action in the case. “We took serious note of the offence and promptly arrested the four accused. Chargesheet will be submitted against the accused in court within 30 days. Stringent action will be taken as per law,” the TOI report quoted the SP as saying.
