Panama Papers leak case: Aishwarya Rai Bachchan summoned by ED for questioning

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has been summoned by Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Panama Papers leak case. For the unversed, ED had registered PMLA case after Panama Papers showed how companies were set up in offshore islands to avoid taxes. As per various media reports, the actress was summoned for questioning in the FEMA case.

Aishwarya has been reportedly asked to appear before ED’s Delhi Office today (December 20). Earlier, the actress was also summoned by ED on November 9 under Section 37 FEMA. The summon was reportedly sent to the actress to her Mumbai residence Pratiksha. And she was asked to respond within 15 days.

Meanwhile, this development has also been confirmed by news agency ANI. The tweet shared by the agency reads, “Enforcement Directorate summons Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in a case being investigated by the agency: Sources.”

As per the news agency, ED has registered a money-laundering case under the Prevention Of Money Laundering Act (2002) in the matter. While the ED has asked the actress to visit its office today, Aishwarya has reportedly sought another date for questioning.

According to IANS, an ED official said, “We summoned her for December 20. As of now we haven’t got any reply from her side. The summon was sent to her Mumbai residence.”

What are Panama Papers?

The Panama Papers are 11.5 million leaked encrypted confidential documents that were leaked in 2016, in the month of April. The leak exposed financial details of nearly 2,14,888 offshore entities.
