Pune : On Saturday, a maid was arrested on charges of stealing from her employers’ premises. The accused was involved in drugging and robbing 11 people, mostly the elderly. The 43-year-old servant had stolen ornaments from various parts of the city since 2018.
During the preliminary investigation, the Wanowrie police have recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 60.93 lakh from the maid. Out of 11 cases registered against her, four cases were reported at Wanwories police, one each with the Kondhwa, Yerawada, Koregaon Park, Bundgarden, Cantonment, Samarth, and Khadak police.
While commenting on the incident, assistant inspector Jaywant Jadhav said, “We arrested the woman on September 4 in three cases. She is in police custody remand for the past 20 days,” as quoted by the Times of India. He further added that the accused’s custody will be transferred to seven other police stations for the probe.
The police team has recovered ornaments from her residence in Tamil Nadu. During the questioning, the woman revealed that she used to work for a few days and steal valuables after mixing sleeping pills in the residents’ meals.
In connection with the probe, another senior inspector Deepak Ladag said, “In the four cases registered with the Wanowrie police, she was recruited without police verification.”
