Restrictions will increase in the state, but lockdown will not be required: Rajesh Tope

Health Minister Rajesh Tope clarified that at present the state government is not considering any lockdown. So citizens need not panic.

The number of omicron patients in the state is increasing rapidly. In some parts of Mumbai, the corona positivity rate has gone up to around 10 to 11 percent. Therefore, the restrictions will be strictly enforced across the state. These restrictions may be extended. However, Health Minister Rajesh Tope clarified that at present the state government is not considering any lockdown. So citizens need not panic.

Lockdown affects the economy, it hurts the poor. This has been discussed in detail in the meeting with Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. There will be no lockdown at that time. But the intensity of the restrictions could be further increased, hinted Rajesh Tope.

He was speaking to the media in Mumbai on Saturday. He reiterated that the situation in Mumbai was serious. The number of new corona patients in the state is expected to go up to 12,000 to 15,000 on Saturday. Mumbai’s average corona positivity rate has gone beyond 5 per cent. In the last few days, the positivity rate has gone up to 10 to 11 per cent. The number of corona patients has doubled in the last two days, Tope said.

Mumbai, Thane and Raigad have the highest number of corona patients. Therefore, further decisions will be taken based on the availability of beds and oxygen in these areas. When the state needs 700 metric tons of oxygen, it will automatically lock down, said Rajesh Tope.

A total of 8,067 new coronary heart disease patients were diagnosed in the state on Friday. This includes five thousand 428 new victims in Mumbai. This has led to a rapid increase in the number of new coronary heart disease patients in the state. During the day, 1,766 crore patients have recovered and returned home. In the last 24 hours, eight coronary heart disease deaths have been reported in the state.

During the day, four patients were found infected with Omicron, one each in Vasai-Virar, Navi Mumbai, Mira-Bhayander and Panvel areas. As 972 new coronary heart disease patients were registered in Thane district during the day, the total number of patients reached 5 lakh 74 thousand 859. During the day, 4 people died and the death toll has reached 11,620.
