The girl was going to work, the accused chased and raped her, absconding with the girl’s mobile, arrested

Kalyan police have arrested a man from Gujarat for raping a deaf and dumb girl and snatching her expensive mobile phone. The accused, identified as Ashwin Rathwa, has been remanded in police custody for four days by a welfare court. The incident of rape of a deaf and dumb girl had created a stir in Kalyan. Five police investigation squads were searching for the accused.

The victim lives in a coal mine area in the eastern part of Kalyan. She works in the office of a courier company. She left home around 5 a.m. on July 2. Her brother dropped her off at the station area in Kalyan East. She then went from east to west by road. When she reached the railway colony in Kalyan West, the accused was chasing her at a secluded place.

At around 5.30 pm, the accused approached her and raped her. He snatched her mobile and passed out. The girl somehow reached Subhash Chowk. At the place where she had to catch the bus to work, a woman saw her. She immediately had an idea of ā€‹ā€‹what might have happened to her. She contacted the police. Police immediately sent the girl for a medical examination.

The accused was captured on a CCTV camera at the Kalyan station. The accused also appeared on Thane CCTV. Police and Crime Branch were searching for the accused under the guidance of Sambhaji Jadhav, Senior Inspector of Police, Mahatma Phule Police Station, Kalyan. Finally, after nine days, the accused got a clue.

Mahatma Phule police arrested a friend of the accused and asked him who the accused was and where he was. The investigation team of police officer Deepak Sarode, police personnel Sachin Bhalerao, Suchit Tikekar and Ravindra Hase reached Ahmedabad in Gujarat. Naradham Ashwin Rathwa was taken into custody. The girl’s mobile phone has also been seized from him. He was produced in the welfare court today and remanded in police custody for four days. The case is being investigated by female police officer Manjusha Shelar.
