The Trinamool Congress party on Friday moved the Supreme Court of India demanding an investigation by a court-appointed panel over the alleged “large-scale violence” during the recently-conducted municipal elections in Tripura.

Senior advocate Kapil Sibal sought an urgent listing of two applications filed by the TMC, and told a bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and AS Bopanna that in spite of the apex court’s order on Thursday to provide unrestricted access to the media, it was not implemented on ground.

There was absolute mayhem there. Even candidates were not allowed to vote. There were violent incidents. Even media reports said that there was violation of Supreme Court orders,” Sibal told the court.

The SC bench responded by reminding that it had passed “a specific and detailed order” yesterday regarding the matter.

“I know but two battalions of CAPF were not provided. Two constables were also not provided to the contesting candidates. We have electronic media evidence with us. Kindly list these applications urgently,” Sibal claimed.
