The 45-year-old Mumbai businessman, who had leaked videos and photos of a Virar resident on social media and a WhatsApp group after their failed relationship, continues to harass the woman and her family. Dilip Jain made about 65,000 phone calls to her number in the past one year. Moreover, he has once again created the survivor’s fake Instagram account, which refers to her as a ‘call girl’ and he messages her number to numerous people. Virar police said he has gone underground after they sent him a show-cause notice for externment.

Jain faces seven FIRs and four non-cognisable offences based on the complaints filed by the woman, 29. One of the seven FIRs has been filed at Tulinj police station. The rest of the FIRs and all the non-cognisable offences are registered at Virar police station.

Jain has been using multiple SIM cards to make calls to the woman and her family members, said the woman. Jain had in the past created her fake profile on Facebook, and then on Instagram this year. On February 28, Virar police had filed an FIR in this regard and the account was suspended. However, he has created another Instagram profile. “It takes hardly a minute to create an account on social media, but it kills my entire day to file an FIR for the same… I don’t know what will be the final solution,” she told mid-day.

“Jain has been sending messages to numerous people using this fake Instagram account, along with my mobile number. He writes to them, ‘I am a call girl…interest ho to WhatsApp par call karo (sic)’,” she said. Every day, she is flooded with random calls and lewd messages on her WhatsApp. “The callers ask for my rate for one night. In the messages, they ask if I am a call girl and how much do I charge… I don’t know how to get rid of this problem…,” she added.

Her father told that Jain also harassed his sister in Jamnagar, Gujarat. “He used to call my sister who is 55-year-old and say, ‘you are a dhandhewali’… After his back-to-back calls, she finally blocked his number and even stopped talking to us. My sister is not keeping well and this harassment is taking a toll on her health. We don’t know what to do… I am feeling completely helpless… He was arrested and externed from Virar, yet he has not stopped harassing us,” he said.

He added, “Jain calls me at least 25 times a day…sometimes at 2am. He has circulated my number as that of my daughter’s pimp… I have been telling people who send messages that a fake ID has been created to harass us. But a few of them continue to send disturbing messages.”

He said the family’s reputation has been tarnished and his daughter is not getting any decent marriage proposal. “The entire family is disturbed…kya karu [what do I do?],” the father asked. The daughter said, “Jain has vowed to defame us publicly.”

Jain has been harassing the woman after she ended her three-plus years of relationship with him. In April 2019, a local court ordered his externment from Palghar, Bhiwandi and Thane talukas but he continued to make life miserable.

The horrific Sakinaka rape-murder of a 33-year old has scared both the Virar survivor and her family. She told mid-day that she has stopped going out of her house, as she fears being attacked and raped by Jain who keeps a close watch on her movement.

Inspector Suresh Varhade, the in-charge of Virar police station, said, “We had arrested Jain in February and he was in police custody for three days. Later, he was sent to judicial custody and then the court granted him bail.”

“We have initiated action to extern him and served him a show-cause notice. But he has since then gone underground… He will be banned from entering Palghar, Thane, Mumbai and Navi Mumbai if he is externed. The period of externment will be decided by the court,” he added.
